I Excuse - Burn The Empty To The Ash
The Newest Industry
posted January 11th 2005

Oh where do I start about I Excuse? Billyboy introduced me to them about a year and half ago. I hadn't really heard any Japanese music before then but I instantly fell in love with it! Dave and Jo obviously did too since they licensed this album from Snuffy Smile to give it better packaging (Snuffy cds don't have tray cards or jewel cases!) and to give them better exposure (but pressed the cds TAO?!). I Excuse sounds like a spastic mix of classic Leatherface mixed in with some Husker Du. The songs are pretty much a mix of politics and "stupid girl" songs. Gon completely screams his heart out on Wailing Dance and the title track I Excuse. Even if you can't understand a word of it you'll tear up a little. Yes...they're that good! Respective Battlefield's chorus "Life killing ideas, life keeps shutting me down" will make your hair stand up when you're singing along. Try and spot the Clash riff in Top Page Of The Weekly Madness! There's an Articles Of Faith cover too. Every song on Burn The Empty To The Ash is melodic and rocks completely. I'd even say it's a safe bet that this is the best album of 2002. If you haven't heard I Excuse yet...FIND SOME! They might even be your doorway into the amazing Japanese punk rock scene like it as for me.
